My Weekend In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Hi, y’all!

This week’s travel adventures sent me to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a short little visit.

The main reason why I came this weekend, was to celebrate my cousin Peyton. She graduated from high school on Friday night! Peyton and I have been inseparable from the moment she was born because we basically grew up together. She ended up moving to Pennsylvania her freshman year of high school, but we are still close and we still love (and fight) like sisters. Peyton graduated from Canon-McMillan High School with honors. Her graduation was on her high school football field, and I felt nothing but pure pride as I watched her receive her diploma. I am one proud cousin!

On Saturday, my nana, cousin, aunt and I spent the day seeing the beautiful city of Pittsburgh and shopping of course (hello to tax-free shopping!).

We went to South Side to do a little bit of shopping and sightseeing. It was such a fun little area that kind of reminded me of a less raunchy version of a street in New Orleans. I loved seeing all of the graffiti art done by a local artist. There we lots of cute little boutiques and restaurants. We went to the cutest little place, Milkshake Factory, where we got yummy classic chocolate milkshakes. I am thinking that we need one of these in Oklahoma (please). Plus, we could not leave without a mini photoshoot to document our fun little trip. My poor cousin Peyton is used to me forcing her to take a million pictures with me wherever we go…oops. A mini photo shoot is something all of my family and friends have come to expect with me wherever we go now. They will thank me later (I hope).

Then my aunt drove us to Station Square, which is a cute little area. It is a great place for tourists, like myself, to get a great view of the city of Pittsburgh. I love that you can basically see everything from this one area! The tall buildings, the water, the famous yellow bridge, Heinz Stadium and more. What made this even better, was that is was an absolutely beautiful day. The sun was shining and it was the perfect temperature (unlike the beauty of dealing with the unpredictable weather of good ole Oklahoma).

I had such a great time spending time with my family, shopping and seeing the beautiful sights of Pittsburgh. Now it is time to fly back home to Oklahoma and go back to sleeping in my own bed (thank goodness).

My Plane Ride Essentials

One of my favorite things in the whole wide world is traveling. There is something magical about going to a new place and finding the little treasures it has to offer. I love seeing new sights, learning about different cultures, meeting new people and the sense of adventure.

Today, I am traveling from good ole Tulsa, Oklahoma to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for my cousin Peyton’s high school graduation. I am traveling by plane with my nana, so I thought I would share my plane ride essentials with you!

Iced Vanilla Latte

I think it is a sin for an airport to not have a coffee shop. I promise you, you do not want to be around me if I do not have a little bit of caffeine in my system.

The Perfect Playlist

It is impossible to make it through a plane ride without the perfect playlist ready to go. Grab a pair of headphones and decide what type of music you want to listen to. If you are like me, you probably have a different playlist for every mood you have (yes, I know I am weird).

A Good Book

If you want to take a break from music or you are a good multitasker, make sure to bring a good book to read! Today I am trying out Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur. I will let you know how it is!

A Journal and Pretty Pen

Obviously, you know by now that my love language is words, so I literally always have a journal on me. I like to always be ready to write down whatever inspiration comes to mind. Sometimes I just like to sit and write. It might not even make sense at first, but I love writing.

A Laptop

I do not think I ever leave my house without my Macbook. It is seriously my baby. It is kind of like my journal because I obviously love to blog, so I always want to have it on me just in case. Plus, I have to watch Netflix of course (my new obsession is Riverdale).

A Cute Bag

Well, you have to have something to carry all of your essentials of course! Today I have my gray Kate Spade purse and my Vera Bradley backpack.

Comfy Clothes

Airport attire is a comfy cute for me. An Alpha Phi T-shirt, my favorite pair of Lulu Lemon cropped leggings and my Adidas.

What are your plane ride essentials? Comment below!

I Stand In Awe

“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” Genesis 1:31

Life is extremely crazy 24/7. We tend to rush through the day and solely focus on getting our daily tasks completed. Once we are done with our daily chores, we skip to thinking about what we have to do tomorrow instead of living in the present. When every single day is nonstop, we seem to forget to take a moment to just pause and stand in awe of the beauty that God created that surrounds us everywhere we go.

This summer has been nonstop for me. I am a full-time nanny Monday through Friday, I took an online summer class and I try to spend as much time as possible with my family and friends before I go back to school in August. It can be a little overwhelming to balance everything, and I tend to constantly be on the go and rushing through my days.

This weekend, I got to spend a little vacation time with some of my family at Niagara Falls in Canada. I definitely have wanderlust, so I was happy that I got to experience a place that I had never been to before. I was excited to take a little break from reality and just slow down a little bit.

After a plane ride from Oklahoma to Pennsylvania and a five hour drive to Canada, we finally made it to Niagara Falls. When we got there, I just took a second and put life on pause to really take all of my surroundings in.

I stood there in awe when I looked at the beauty right in front of me. I stood in awe of God’s mighty power and the incredible beauty that He created. His power and beauty seriously never ceases to amaze me. I stood there and wondered how people could stand and look at this beautiful place and still be skeptic that God exists. This place is just one of God’s many masterpieces.

It’s crazy to me to think that the God that made Niagara Falls is the same exact God that made me and you. How amazing is that? We are all different and made uniquely in God’s image. He carefully and intentionally made you the way you are, just like he did for all the beauty in this world. That just shows how much God cares about you, more than you can even imagine.

I think it is extremely important for us to pause and take a minute to take in God’s beautiful creations and appreciate everything that He does for us. We get so caught up in life that we tend to forget to just take a minute to appreciate the life that God has given us.

The world tends to focus on the darkness of what goes on, but we have to focus on God’s beauty instead. God’s beauty is all around us. It is literally everywhere, so there is no excuse to not find some beauty in the world even on the darkest days.

Challenge yourself this week to take a few minutes every single day to pause and take in God’s beauty. Thank Him for his creations.

“How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number — living thing both large and small.” Psalm 104:24-25
